Aurora Aksnes' earliest musical memories are of discovering an instrument hidden in the attic of her home, and becoming fascinated with its sounds. Jan Oystein Aksnes and May-Britt Aksnes encouraged Aurora to study music not to get a job or a hobby however, as a chance to develop. In order to do so she started writing her own songs that were her own creations. Alongside Bjork, she cites Leonard Cohen as an influence. Responding to her mother's advice that her children should not be aiming at achieving fame through their songwriting skills, she instead be aware of the significance of them and the impact they have on society. The piano was her first instrument at the age of six, and began making music when she was 9 years old. This was not known to her family until she turned fourteen. Aurora never dreamed of becoming a star. As she says, she loves writing music. She believes that music is the best method to experience anything.
